Who doesn't have a weakness for a BBC period drama? Add a dash of wit, a hearty helping of romance, and a healthy sprinkling of independent thinking, and we are completely hooked!!
Julia Sawalha steals the show, as Dorcas Lane, the independent postmistress of Candleford. She has a sharp wit, compassion and great sense of humour. Julia shines here! (And just quietly makes me wish to be a spirited, spinster in a small, backwater at the end of the 19th century, that coincidentally attracts a steady stream of very well looking gentlemen! )

Olivia Hallinan doesn't disappoint either playing Laura, the daughter of Dorcas' poor cousin, who hails from Lark Rise, and moves to Candleford to work with cousin Dorcas (or Miss Lane, as she so well-manneredly refers to her).

Based on the semi-autobiographical trilogy by Flora Thompson, Lark Rise to Candleford is available on DVD from the ABC. Not sure if it shows on the ABC here in Australia...anyone else know? If you're lucky you may be able to borrow these off your Mum, like I did! Thanks for the intro Mum! :)
