Ride to the Outpost

One of the places in Melbourne that we feel is home, is the gorgeous Outpost Cafe.  Have these guys done a beautiful job in making you feel all cosy in your funky grandma's kitchen!

Not only is the food and atmosphere a special treat, but the coffee is from Melbourne's finest St. Ali.  We know we don't need to say anymore about the coffee.  You're very well looked after.

If you follow our tweets, you will have noticed we cannot help but commit tweet faux par, by tweeting the occasional food pic (please don't let that stop you following!).  But we know you will forgive us when you see it's mainly from the beloved Outpost Cafe.  The food is so delicious!  You feel like your Nanna is a gourmet home-cooking chef extraordinaire!

I think you understand how much we enjoy our time at Outpost.  We can be found there 3 our of 4 weekends (that's a conservative estimation).

Recently the Cafe's dining room has been completed.  Now there are several spaces to choose from, each with a different feel, but all like home!

Aww...even all festive looking at the moment!

New Menu for an Old Favourite

Today we popped into one of our (& everyone else's) fav cafes, St Ali's! Having not been there for quite a few weeks, it was our first view of the new menu, and we were definitely not disappointed.

On a healthy whim the Breakfast Platter was the choice of the day. Highly recommended for a good start, delicious combo of flavours and textures, and filling without being too heavy.

There are so many great cafes in Melbourne, and so little time...so, to help us keep track of the one's we have & have yet to visit we've started a Coffee Hit List.  And we'll be posting our thoughts as we get to each.

St ALi's or nowhere

This unprepossessing street houses one of the best coffee houses in Melbourne. And you can find Tomas and me there most weekends!

St ALi's is located in an old St John's Ambulance garage and houses one of our city's best coffee roasters. They delight patrons with a uniquely roasted coffee of the day, along with their house blend.

The Melbourne Coffee Review book 2010 gave St ALi's a top rating 3 beans, and it is very well deserved!

The food is also outstanding, and on weekends it gets so busy here that you'll have to queue most of the day. With winter rapidly approaching the thoughtful owners have just opened a coffee bar across the lane where patrons can wait for a table without having to wait to get into the coffee!

If you live in Melbourne and haven't been here yet, or if you're planning a trip here, then I'd highly recommend you drop in. You can also take home a bag of their delicious coffees!

It's getting cold here...apparently the first snow of the season fell today, and you can certainly feel the chill in the air. Down here in the southern hemisphere thoughts are now turning to hats and scarves, and hot drinks by the fire! I love winter, so can't wait! Check back with me in a few months and it might be a different story, but for now, it all feels lovely!!
