Ready to Count Down?

We never really had Advent Calendars growing up, but I keep seeing them around, and suddenly am itching to try my hand at one.

Is it too late?!

It seems like a lovely tradition, and I love the thought that's gone into some of these.  Such as a list of 24 things to do to bring on the Christmas feeling, and get you thinking of others at this time of year.

It's a sweet idea...and if I can't get it going for this year, I'm going to set myself a reminder to get one going early enough for next Christmas...cause I don't know about you, but this one came around awfully fast, so I'm figuring before I know it, it will be next Christmas anyhoo!!

In the meantime, here's a little collection of lovely Advent Calendar ideas to get me going...

(Vintage Advent Calendar & Tutorial | by Fun.kyti.me)
(Printable Advent Calendar | by Mr Printables)
(Mini Tree Advent Calendar - includes printout | by Oh Happy Day)
(That tiny tree tied onto the car just kills me!!)

Have you got an Advent Calendar up this year?!

Let it rain (Crayola style)!

So it was only a matter of time till we tried one of these.  They are everywhere on Pinterest and the blogosphere.  And as well as making a very effective picture, they also looked like fun to make, so we had to try them out!!

What better time than Christmas?  And what better recipients than my 2 sweet nieces?

Let the melted crayon fun begin!

{The little girl tipping out the paint can was taken from a cool graffiti found in a Melbourne lane way.  And the other pic was drawn by Tomas (talented as she is :)}

These were tonnes of fun to make, and look lovely up on the wall.  Perfect for sweet little girls!!

Have you tried making any of these yet?  We'd love to take a look!!

Christmas Cards - A Novel Idea!

What a lovely treat it is to get home and sit down with a cuppa and all the lovely Christmas cards you have received that day!

Here at Tomas & Jones HQ we've decided that's a pleasure our Book Club buddies would relish so we've made some lovely cards to quickly send off to them before the big day!  Of course, naturally the cards tend towards a literary theme...how could we resist?

Let's open up and have a look...

And turn over for a special Christmas message...

If you'd like to make some cards like this here is what you'll need:
  • Sewing Machine & Thread
  • Small Old Novel (12.5cm x 18.5cm)
  • Recycled paper for Card (12.5cm x 18.5) or slightly larger
  • Recycled paper for Envelope
  • Printer
  • Templates
Download Templates

1.  Merry Christmas with Baubles Print

THE CARD
Print the Merry Christmas print onto a page from your Old Novel.  Once you have printed your post card onto some recycled paper (or some other paper of your choice - remembering to use the right dimensions shown above) sew the two pieces together.  Now write your message!

THE ENVELOPE
We used recycled paper and cut it to size, but you can use any paper you like.

Dimensions to match card:  33.5cm x 21.5cm.

Et Voila!  It's not too late to get a few special cards out.

We hope you can make use of the templates, or if not, the idea.  Everyone loves a special handmade card!

Have a great week and lead up to Christmas...
